Dr. Muhammad Yunus is a Bangladeshi social entrepreneur, banker, economist, and civil society leader who is widely recognized as a pioneer of microcredit and microfinance. Born on June 28, 1940, in Chittagong, Bangladesh, Yunus founded the Grameen Bank in 1983, which provides small loans to impoverished individuals without requiring collateral. His innovative approach has empowered millions of people, particularly women, to lift themselves out of poverty through entrepreneurship.

Yunus completed his education in Bangladesh before receiving a Fulbright scholarship to study at Vanderbilt University in the United States, where he earned a Ph.D. in Economics in 1971. He returned to Bangladesh, where his academic and professional work increasingly focused on poverty alleviation. 

In recognition of his efforts, Dr. Yunus and Grameen Bank were jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006. His work has influenced global approaches to poverty reduction, and he is considered one of the leading figures in social business and microfinance. Yunus has also authored several books, including *"Banker to the Poor"*, which details his journey in creating the microcredit movement.

Dr. Yunus's vision extends beyond microcredit. He advocates for a world of three zeros: zero poverty, zero unemployment, and zero net carbon emissions. He has also been involved in various social businesses aimed at solving social problems without focusing on profit maximization. His work has earned him numerous international awards and recognition, solidifying his legacy as a pioneer in social entrepreneurship.
